Lapidary
Shape Stone, cut Quartz, Topaz and Sapphire, and earn authorization to use Werner's Lapidary Workbench on Stillreach.
Authorization at Werner's Lab
The workbench is visible at Werner's Lab, reached on foot from the Prospecting Quarry or Harmonic Workings. Speak to Werner for They're Minerals, Marie!. Before acceptance the bench is locked. The Mission permits one supervised Stone lesson, then a conversation, one supervised Quartz lesson, and a final examination. Graduation permanently opens normal runs. Talk and Trade remain open throughout.
Stone and the cut gems
Once you have graduated from Werner's Mission, the only thing standing between you and Topaz or Sapphire is your Lapidary level: there is no further lesson or permission. A technique appears in your Techniques list and on the Work tab once your level reaches it, so Topaz and Sapphire stay out of both until Lapidary 5 and 8. At Lapidary 8, Werner has one more thing to say; ask him about Beyond the Basics.
- Shape Stone — Lapidary 1. Consumes one Stone in 12 seconds for 15 Lapidary XP. Practice produces no item.
- Cut Quartz — Lapidary 1. Consumes one Uncut Quartz in 18 seconds for one Cut Quartz and 75 Lapidary XP. Both recipes always succeed.
- Cut Topaz — Lapidary 5. Consumes one Uncut Topaz in 30 seconds for one Cut Topaz and 150 Lapidary XP.
- Cut Sapphire — Lapidary 8. Consumes one Uncut Sapphire in 45 seconds for one Cut Sapphire and 300 Lapidary XP.
- Every cut always succeeds. Cut Quartz, Cut Topaz and Cut Sapphire each weigh 100g and stack two to a tile. You can carry, stash, sell or trade them. Werner buys Cut Quartz for 16 Credits, Cut Topaz for 36 and Cut Sapphire for 70, twice what he pays for the uncut gem. He does not sell any gem.
After graduation
Choose a number of pieces or Max. A number attempts that many; Max continues until materials or capacity stop the run. Each next piece checks the inventory left by the last. A started piece reserves its material and must finish; Stop After This Piece ends a longer run after that piece. Completed work resolves when you return, including while you were away, within the ordinary one-hour offline window.
